At the Teapot Café...

DSC07634

... take a look around.

Photo from Winter 2010.

A "café" post is the signal to talk about whatever you want in the comments and to think about using The Althouse Amazon Portal if you've got some shopping to do.

And yes, you can get a nice teapot at Amazon. I like this and this and this.

Nice picture with a cellphone! How many of your blog photos are cellphone, versus DSLR?

Wait; it's not a cellphone, is it? I see your finger on a shutter release button on top. It's a point-and-shoot, right?

Is that a teapot dome I see? Now that was a scandal. Not like going a whole ten days into your term and failing to get Congress to agree to limit the lobbying activities of their staff after the staff enters the private sector.

I see the Democrat legislators are skipping votes just as they did in Wisconsin. It just seems that Wisconsin's experience has gone national - though Trump isn't quite as low key as Walker. So next, will Dems will flee DC to either Virginia or Maryland and stay at a Hooters in Falls Church or Rockville? Will the pussyhats seize the Capitol rotunda; will there be drum circles? Will there be John Doe investigations in all 50 states?

The key insight from Wisconsin is that mere noise makers whether in the media or in the streets, whether ex-Presidents or useless pollsters, are not the same group as the voters. In fact they hate voters, and they cannot accept elections that go against them or consequent policies. We saw it in-state in Wisconsin, we now see it nationally. They shout and shove and skip votes and insult and shout and shout. They never turn to policy because in their mind the only real policy worth working on is insulting Republicans. Republicans work on schools, budgets, jobs, national security; Dems work on insults and noise. And then the Dems lose another election. And it always surprises them.

Yes. Easier to use than the cellphone... and my cellphone never has enough room in it.

I have a collection of teapots. One was a gift from my Japanese boss, and it's very old. He wasn't sure how much older than 100 years, but he could trace it back that far. He used it to perform a tea ceremony for me the day my dog died and then gave me the pot as a gift. Another one belonged to my grandmother who was a suffragist. It has "Votes for Women" painted on it. All of them have a story behind them. My granddaughter, who is five, loves tea and loves it when I make tea in one of them and tell her the story. My teakettle sprang a leak, and she bought me a new one for Christmas so my kettle could have a story, too.

A test for Trump?

I am amazed by Trump's kinetic energy. I know a few people like that, also successful businessmen. I get thrown off easily by the slightest change in my routine, but nothing seems to slow guys like this down. He doesn't seem to require any time for adjustment. Not sure if that is good or bad.

Great news ! Apple has 264 billion in cash. Should be easy to fund planned parenthood, help homeless in SF Bay Area. Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Buffet, Soros, Yahoo, and a bunch of other rich beyond imagination companies promise to help. (Just kidding)

Seems like nobody wants the Patriots to win but their fans. That's the way I like it.

Crime statistics will rise as Trump restores law and order. Cops have been letting things slide because of lack of support last eight years. More arrests will be spun as rise in crime because of Trump.

Moving at breakneck speed, can't keep up. Just this side of out of control. The thought strikes me that the action in response to trump is also swift. It needs to be if the Democrats want - among other things - no one to get a taste of prolonged periods with no attacks, which we would never really know if that is coincidence or not. For other reasons, they too need to act swiftly.

(Who said the Civil Rights movement owed a debt of gratitude to Wallace?)

Secretary Albright could've done a better job answering the danger question in her CNN interview.

Lots of fighting on the political level - is there fighting yet at the populace level?

This tea pot is fabulous. Electric, fast, and beautiful.

Reminds me of Escher's self portrait.

I prefer to use a tablet as my portable data store. 64 gigabytes built-in, with a slot that will take a 128 gigabyte SD card. Enough room so far (though, of course, the form factor makes the camera feature rather clumsy to use).

Of course, my understanding is that if you want to be able to use SD cards, you'll have to buy something not made by the west coast fruit company...

Waiting for Sessions to be confirmed.

Who are the obstructionist Senators?

Are there any holdover "serving at the pleasure of the President" people from those states still employed?

Why?

On the Mary Tyler Moore topic-

Interesting. She died two days after MTM. It sounds like she was in a Madison nursing home.
