"There is clearly a danger if you’re a police officer. These guys were gunned down, sitting in their car doing nothing wrong."

"There is a clear and present danger to police officers right now.... We’re very well aware of the society that we’re living in right now and the time... And that there are some not-so-positive views of law enforcement that a segment of our population holds. If we don’t provide the service in the area that we do, with the personal-type service that we do, we’re nothing more than an occupying army.... We’re going to do what we can to keep ourselves safe."

Said Sgt. Paul Parizek, a spokesman for the police department in Des Moines, Iowa where 2 police officers were killed early this morning in "ambush-style attacks."

Scott Michael Greene, of Urbandale, Iowa, has been taken into custody, and we're told "he has some information pretty crucial to closing this case out."

The downside to Ann's starry-eyed hearting of the cool Obama. (But its only literal blue collar guys, so small price to pay.)

It's not like anyone would shoot down somebody important, someone that counts, like a law professor.

As some charming leftist on this board said, NHI.

What do you care? They would have probably voted Republican.

Indeed, as no police officers were killed before Obama, and American society will surely be Nirvana after he is no longer president!

No American President has done so much to advance the narrative that police are indeed a hostile occupying force, motivated in their arrests by personal animus rather than the public order. These messages reverberate -- as in this case--not only in the black community, and undermine safety of all police.

What makes you think the Klan would approve? The Klan have had their share of conflicts with the police. How do you know this particular cop killer is not a Klan member?

The thing I'll miss most about the Obama Administration is the racial healing.

Who can stop the war?
No one decent wants the police pushing people around in the inner city who don't deserve it.
No one decent wants the police unable to do their jobs, or even getting shot.
What's the answer? Who can stop the war?
Ending the Drug War might help...

Shiloh: "My condolences to the police officer's families"

What a joke.

Aided and abetted the entire way by the Shiloh's of the world and that is not debatable.

But hey, with obambi not running the dems had to figure out some way to gin up additional black votes for their old, tired, white, privileged and utterly corrupt candidate. Thus, lies had to be offered up in terms of police/BLM/"hands up/don't shoot" etc.

All to drag the most corrupt politician in our history across the finish line.

Heckuva job Shiloh. Congrats on the "success" of your policies and rhetoric.

Most of the commentators here seem to be a few steps behind.

The suspect in this case is white. On other boards, people have already begun to predict that the "lamestream media" will blame this on Trump supporters and/or white supremacists, when clearly, it was the act of a deranged individual, as in, don't you dare try to pin this on anyone else.

The guy was escorted out of a high school football game because he "was protesting" with a confederate flag someone stole. Pretty sure he's not with BLM.

Althouse, your con flock's hatred for Obama is palpable like Freder mentioned a wk ago.

But of course I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

And you're ready to hate the next president regardless. Trolling may not be an adequate word to describe your recent offerings.

This is why vacationing from blogs is an easy process, unless one is addicted, ie angry cons just end up repeating themselves ad nauseam and there's only so many ways to say Obama sucks! But occasional political entertainment is constitutional.

Everybody should always be hesitant to comment when the matters are still ongoing. Early reports are often wrong.

My sincerest prayers are with the families and friends of the victims. They should be remembered by us all.

Any political point scoring is ghoulish. Shame on you all, who tried that above.

My condolences to the families and friends. They must live with this terrible taking-off, a wound that can't heal, made worse for being so utterly senseless.

There is evil in the world.

One other thought that IMHO often goes unsaid at this time. This attack is an attack on all of us, not just because it forces anyone decent to go through some anger and some sadness; but because it forces the police to become that much more afraid and suspicious and jumpy. Every. Single. One. In every cop shop in the land, these cases (however few) are being talked about and thought about. And every officer who goes out on patrol will be carrying those words and thoughts.

So each of us, when we face a highway stop or a sidewalk conversation with the folks in blue, now faces a higher risk of being shot or taken down hard because the cop was on DefCon1. Can you blame them?

When is the huge Trumphant Celebration Day scheduled for?

And is it true that Canadian border police are opening their border for Americans leaving for Canada that Day while the Mexican border police are opening it for their citizens coming back home.

You hear that? That is the sound of that thin veneer of civilization being torn. You take for granted the ability to walk out the front door with your kids and go to the grocery store or the park.

But they don't in Chicago. Democrat dominated Chicago where democrat voters make the city completely unsafe with the encouragement and support of democrats. Democrats are expressly interested in racial division and poverty.

They are not good people. Just look at Shiloh on this thread disingenuously expressing condolences while trying to downplay Obamas obvious and direct role in promoting this act. They should not be treated like good people if they refuse to support a free and safe society.

Progressive corruption. Obama, Clinton, and Democrats must unequivocally condemn the Pro-Choice Church and especially its doctrines of abortion rites and [class] diversity.

Elective abortion (e.g. murder) should only be tolerated in self-defense.

We have been way past political point scoring for a long time. This is an ongoing war against liberty and the rule of law. They are trying to destroy the very fabric of our country and turn us into Mexico or Iraq.

This expectation has long been banished from our culture. On this very site it took ARM 15 minutes to blame conservatives for the Gabby Giffords shooting. Admired Democrats (like Paul Krugman) beat that dead horse for weeks.

But if you're going to do it you should be right. Otherwise you're just demonstrating as ARM and Krugman did that your partisanship is more powerful than reality.

Angry racist asshole shoots and kills two cops. First time in 39 years a Des Moines cop is murdered.

Cue the predictable responses that reinforce existing beliefs and what should be done.

From the right: It's Obama's war on cops and BLM's fault so they should shut up.

From the left: It's the gun's fault. Time to ban guns and confederate flags too.

Obama!!!!

"Too bad Obama got the volunteer’s race wrong—he was Hispanic—and the president didn’t know the case’s tangled and ambiguous circumstances. But from there on, he seemingly felt whole and at home in his own skin, as if being baptized by Reverend Wright all over again. And just after cops killed Alton Sterling and Philando Castile in Louisiana and Minnesota this July, he made a speech in Poland that was messianic in its passionate, almost tearful, depiction of an American racism, conscious or unconscious, that sets police to kill blacks remorselessly. Of course, many cops are dutiful and heroic, he acknowledged formulaically, but enough are so brutally racist as to deserve the enraged enmity of ghetto blacks and the suspicion of law-abiding African-Americans, who understandably return violence for violence—so that officers, in effect, bring their murders on themselves. This delusional accusation went beyond even the left-wing account of American police racism of 50 years ago and, as it predictably turned out, incited more black murders of cops."

"The tragedy is that the first black U.S. president, with his beautiful, upwardly rocketing family, could have served his black fellow citizens as an example of American opportunity and could have preached the gospel of family, responsibility, and hard work, changing the culture immeasurably for the better. He chose instead to become as divisive as George Wallace."

Black church burned, with pro-Trump vandalism.

This is such a left-wing caricature of Trump supporters that it makes me think false-flag, but there are serious racists out there ( such as Dylan Roof ) who think that if they commit so heinous act then a bunch of like minded people will rally behind them.

Whoever did this, for whatever reason, should rot in hell.

I would agree to this. ( As long as I'm the one who gets to determine which assignments are false, and which are true. )

Or we could stick with the Professors usual standard of allowing free speech. Her call.
